Now Recruiting - Coaching Team

24 January 2026

Hunter Volleyball has become a thriving community of players and developing coaches and referees. Having so many options to play has been possible thanks so dozens of volunteer coaches who have helped on the sidelines. Can you help in 2026?

As a Community Coach there's some great ways to learn the game by coaching, including:

  • Ready Set Spike Assistant Coach (Mondays at PCYC Lake Macquarie or Maitland High School) from 2nd February;

  • Junior Social Competition Coach (Mondays at PCYC Lake Macquarie) from 2nd February;

  • Junior Volleyball League Coach (Thursdays at NUSport) from May;

  • Hunter Volleyball League Senior Coach (Thursdays at NUSport) from May;

  • HV Junior & Senior Representatives from June/July.

An Assistant Coach in the Ready Set Spike! program is guided by an experienced Coach, and assists with skill activities, provides encouragement and information to help juniors learn the skills of volleyball as described in the Coaches weekly plan.

As a Junior Social Competition coach, your role is to give pointers and positive encouragement during the game, help the team celebrate their achievements, model good sportsmanship, and suggest ways the team can work together in a rally to play some great volleyball.

For the Junior Volleyball League over Winter, Coaches & Assistant Coaches prepare the team in weekly training sessions before putting their plans into practice on game day. The coaches work as a team, supporting each other to ensure all teams progress equally throughout the season and develop their strengths for a competitive competition from start to finish.

Coaching roles with the Hunter Volleyball League (HVL) and Representative Teams is the next step up and is a collaborative role providing consistency of information and teaching across squads, as they prepare for tournaments.

So what's required to be a Community Coach in 2026?

  • Working With Children Check (Volunteer)

  • National Police Check (for roles conducted at the PCYC Lake Macquarie

  • Foundation Coaching Course which is an introductory coach education program which provides insights and important lessons about the roles of coaches in Australian community sports.
